SORT OUT INFORMATION 2024/2025

Hello Parents and Guardians of u11 house league players!

The pre-season for 2024/2025 will involve 4 hours of pre-skates plus 1 hour of skills assessment plus 2 hours of scrimmages.  These sessions will be held during the month of September.  By now, all parents should have received their child’s specific ice times for the first 5 hours of the pre-season activities.

The pre-skates are opportunities for the players to get back on the ice and have fun in a structured environment.  The players are not evaluated during the 4 pre-skate sessions.  Teams will be formed based on the results of the evaluation of each player at the mandatory skills session (September 21 for skaters and September 22 for goalies) and during the sort-out scrimmages (September 28 and 29).    The current blocks that we have for September 28 are 7 AM – 9 AM and 2 PM – 5PM.  The current blocks that we have for September 29 are 8 AM – 2 PM.

Please note that we are participating in a house league program.  The objectives and policies of house league can be quite different than in a competitive program.  For example, sort outs are very different than try outs.  There is no reason to be nervous for a sort-out!  Everyone will be placed on a team and all players will receive equal opportunities throughout the season.  The sort-outs are simply done so we can have the most balanced teams possible.  Having balanced teams makes for a much more fun and interesting season for everyone!

Please also note the following points about the sort out process: Parents are not provided with information regarding their child’s progress during the sort out process, parents should not attempt to influence the sort out process and the KMHA does not allow families to make requests to be on the same team as a friend.

After sort-outs are complete and the teams have been formed, players will be assigned to their respective teams and contacted in early October with their team allocation and their team’s first team practice times.

Attached are the guiding documents that we are planning to use for the September 21 skills assessment for all players other than full-time goalies.

Have a fun season!
